Some people learned their mother tongue in an organic way, even in school. They learned by speaking, listening, internalising and adapting speech to an instinctive rhythm.  Others learned their language in a very technical way at school. This often makes it easier to learn another language because you can apply a rule you know and understand about your first language to another language. Many people did not learn parts of speech for their mother tongue but learned Latin or a second tongue at school in a technical way.

Parts of speech are usually as follows

  1. The verb – an action (verb)
  2. The noun – a thing (substantiv)
  3. The pronoun – replaces a noun or another pronoun (pronomen)
  4. The adjective – describes a noun (adjektiv)
  5. The adverb – describes a verb (adverb)
  6. The preposition – tells the position of something* (preposition)
  7. The conjunction – connects clauses* (konjunktion)

*a conjunction is a fanboy (for, and, nor,  but, or,  yet)  and connects two independent clauses. a preposition is telling the position of something (with, over, under, around, between)
